HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME; FOR STAY-AT-HOME MUMS

Working Lady

Ok, ok, I know, this sounds like a bad and overused marketing gimmick but trust me it isn't, just some advice for a mom-in-need who may be, like me, 'between jobs' or better put 'down with chronic unemployment' haha. Not so funny though when you are sitting at home burning daylight and not making that salve that is money because as much as no one wants to be labeled a money-lover, your world will not spin the same if you don't have it and the more the merrier so here goes today's blog, be ye proactive :)

Online Writing sites
So this is basically writing articles for people's blogs, websites, etc, and is generally about creation of general information on the internet. The sites that I used for this included iwriter though they've gotten nasty, with about a million con artists who request for articles then turn them down and give you a bad rating etc. So that leaves upwork, guru, and freelancer, all of which need you to take care lest you come across the random scammer.

Blogging
This is creating a blog either by going for free web hosting such as blogger and wordpress, or having a website built for this hence getting web hosting and a web designer to get the details set out then you can get to blogging about whatever is your area of expertise or passion. Over time you can work advertisements into your blog and get paid for giving them the space, or even advertise your own services or items for sale.

Transcription
This is listening to audio files and then typing them out for a fee which is usually paid per audio hour, and the sites you can get transcribing for include transcribe me, scribbie, and once again upwork and guru. You will need to have good grammar for this, a good ear, and fast typing speeds in order to get a lot done in a short length of time. Also handy will be silence in your environment, and a good pair of headphones or earphones.

Virtual Assistant
This is more or less self explanatory and is when you are hired by someone to run their errands online. You are their personal assistant but for their online activities such as responding to e-mail, booking travels, sending gifts and flower and such. If you are interested in this the places to look are freelancing sites or even just type it out on Google and see what comes up.

Taking and Editing Pictures
If you have the eyes and heart of a photographer but are trapped in the body of a Mum hehe then this might be for you. A laptop and the necessary programs will be necessary as well as a good working are. There are lots of companies and individuals online looking for Photoshop editors who can touch up their photographs and edit them in a certain way so once again check out the local job sites like Fuzu and of course Upwork and Guru.
Selling Pastries
For those who get endless praise from family and friends regarding their cooking, this one is for you. Regardless of what you may think, it takes very little to set up this little job from home and this includes the right cooker or oven if you will be baking, and the ingredients to make up a mean serving to at least spread the word around with. You may want to test the waters first by starting small then expanding over time, so get out the equipment and calculate your running costs to the last cent lest you fall into a self-induced loss. You could also prepare some and give sample sizes to your neighbours and also get to ask them if there is anything they think you should change or improve. Think about your packaging, and make sure it is tough, presentable, and cheap; home-made would be best, then once you pick up speed you could come up with a label and logo etc.

Selling Gigs
This is as easy as going oline, signing up to Fiverr and checking out what you can offer to sell for five dollars, around five hundred shillings or actually a little less because the site will take out their cut. You can sell pretty much anything virtual here; articles, e-cards, banners, logos, picture edits, etc etc it's endless. So sign up and see what you can get selling and be sure that it's something you can sell for about four hundred shillings.

Gardening and Livestock
For those who have a 'green thumb', some free land, and big dreams, you can get into this considering that it's basically just putting seeds in the ground and watering them diligently till they grow (I might have oversimplified this a bit though) but you get the point. If you have patience and the resources, some light gardening can include planting spinach and kales, tomatoes and watermelon, 'dhania' and pumpkins, all of which I have planted at some point or other and actually harvested in sometimes small quantities. Even if the harvest is not too good, you can supplement your own home's food which will save you that much from getting the stuff in the shop. If you do not have all the necessary equipment and information however, do not make your initial investment so high that you stand to make large losses; or get a specialist to help you along.

E-books
For authors in training or actually anyone who loves to write, this is possibly the best deal out there because you simply write out what is in your heart in a grammatical manner, get a catchy cover designed, and voila, you can publish your ebook and put it up for sale on any of the markets like amazon's kindle. Make sure you price it just right as too high or too low will not sell, and this magic price is between one hundred shillings and two hundred shillings.

So there you have it, this is my take on working from home, all of the things that I tried and am still trying, and if you have anything to add to my list, feel free to let me know in the comments. Do remember to subscribe to receive more of my posts regularly and I also welcome comments and suggestions as feedback makes the dream work hehehe, so til next week, stay safe!!
